Peace Can't Last Forever
Prologue~Calm Before the Storm

"Kids!  Hayaku!  You're going to be late!!" Bulma shouted over the intercom.  She sighed heavily, it never failed.  Every morning the Guardians would sleep in late and every morning they'd have to eat on the run.   Turning around, she couldn't help but smile at the sight of five-year old Laura and four-year old Trunks at the kitchen table.  The two children were dressed neatly in their school uniforms and were calmly eating breakfast.  Trunks was attending pre-school and Laura kindergarten at West Capital Elementary.

"Oh man, we're gonna be laaaate!!"

Hearing that panicked and all too-familiar cry, Bulma quickly moved out of harms way.  Sure enough, just seconds later seven teenage forms blurred into the kitchen, snagged their breakfast off the counter and tore out the kitchen door.

"Arigato Bulma-san!!"

The blue-haired scientist shook her head, some things never changed.

"We are now entering the Sol system.  It will only be a matter of days before we reach Chikyuu."

"Good.  I'm looking forward to this."

"Are the Chikyuu-jin really that powerful?"

"Iie, the Chikyuu-jin are not.  But it seems that the last surviving saiya-jin have settled there."

"Ah!  Now I understand the Lady's caution.   Saiya-jin are not to be taken lightly."

"True.  But even if they have achieved super saiya-jin, they still won't be a problem."

"I hope they have, otherwise they'll die too quickly."

His forehead scrunched in concentration, Son Gohan wrestled with one of his greatest adversaries:  Pre-Algebra.  Many a student had fallen to it before, but Gohan would not be defeated.  Anyway, it wasn't that it was hard to him, he had an IQ of 300, it was just so . . .  "Booooring!" he groaned, thumping his head down on his desk.

"So why don't you take a break?"

"Gyah!" startled, Gohan jumped back in his chair, losing his balance and tottering dangerously backwards.  Flailing his arms in an attempt to keep his balance, he still ended up flat on his back.  From there he glared up at his best friend Jianu who had, once again, snuck in and scared the daylights out of him while he was studying.  "Don't you ever knock?" he growled.

"Yeah, but you never hear me," she replied smugly as he righted his chair.  The strawberry blond senshi smiled lopsidedly at him, "Don't you ever take a break?  It's nearly 4:00."

Gohan blinked in surprise, "Hontou?  I can't believe I was studying that long," he muttered to himself.

"Believe it" she told him, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the window.  "Now come on."

"Wh-where are we going?" he asked.  He'd long since given up on trying to stop Jianu from "hijacking" him.  Besides, he did always have fun.

"Dinner."

Gohan blinked again, "This early?"  As a saiya-jin he was always hungry, but still . . . 4:00?

"By the time we get there, it won't be so early," she explained patiently.

He grinned, "Dining American this time?"

"Where else would we go and have to fly for that long?"  By this time the two warriors were already out the window and headed towards Capsule Corp.

As they flew, Gohan fell back slightly to admire Jianu.   It was only recently that he'd begun to notice certain things about her he'd never thought about before.  Like, the way her hair framed her delicate face, how her eyes sparkled when she laughed and how they lit-up when she fought, how her body curved in all the right places, how she was floating directly in front of him . . . "Gyah!"

"Son Gohan, I've been talking to you and you totally spaced out on me."  The teenage senshi was watching him expectantly, her hands on her hips, "What's on your mind?"

Gohan flushed, he wasn't going to tell Jianu that!   "Oh nothin'  I just zoned out, that's all," he lied, hoping that his fifteen year-old friend would let him off the hook.  (AN:  Actually Jianu is 16 and Gohan is 13.  Just like Gohan, Jianu spent a year in the Room of Spirit and Time.  But according to the timeline they're still 15 and 12.)  Jianu eyed Gohan suspiciously for a moment, but decided to let it slide.

About an hour later, Gohan and the dragonball Guardians were happily eating pizza and talking about whatever came to mind.  It was just another carefree day for the young warriors who remained blissfully unaware of the approaching danger.
